Some kids suck.....

My baby girl Mariah, she's autistic, high functioning, but autistic. She has her quirks, she is a teeny odd, but we all are. She just started the third grade and the girls in her class are awful, I hate it. I don't know what to do. They are the meanest bunch of little girls I have ever met, not accepting at all. I'm not sure what I am trying to say, I just needed to write it out.

I wish kids were nicer.

I am sorry that they are big meany heads!! Kids can be so cruel I know, but Mariah is a wonderful little girl and soon they will all see how special she is. If you need me to send my kids to kick their butts let me know ;)

I wish kids were nicer too. I would go kick parents butts for letting there kids be like that.

I love Mariah to death. She can always make you smile. I even have the letter she helped Allyson write.

I wish I had better advice.

Do you want me to take care of them? I know some people...

Okay, I started thinking about this a little more and it made me upset. You and David have always been Riah's number one advocate. I say you make this a big deal. Yeah, some kids suck and most of the time the kids that suck have parents that suck, too. Kids are mean because they've seen it somewhere, home or tv (tv most of the time). My point is, kids have always been mean since forever, we know that's not going to change. I think in this case, 'Riah just needs to know that she has the best support/self-esteem system at home. Make sure 'Riah knows that she is bright, intelligent, cool, funny, kind and all the other wonderful things she is. I know you already know that, but I think with her she needs to hear it constantly. Write her notes occasionally saying these things, you guys can have a journal that you both share maybe. Have her write about things that happen at school that make her happy/sad and respond to them, so it becomes a response journal between you guys and talk about it. You can maybe even be the cool mom who brings in donuts and juice for the class and the little brats in class can be jealous about that because all the other kids will think that 'Riah is so cool and has a cool mom. I'd also emphasize with 'Riah that the little brats are behaving like that because they either feel threatened by her uniqueness or the fact that she is a lot smarter than them. Just explain to her why they could be acting so mean, and that she has done nothing wrong to cause it. Also, if those little girls' behavior is effecting 'Riah's education in anyway, I'd let the teacher know about it. Those girls don't have the right to interfere with 'Riah's learning or well-being. Being that she's only in 3rd grade the teacher should be notified about this, the teacher has an important responsibility of creating a comfortable and tease-free community in the classroom.

I forgot something else...tell 'Riah I love her just the way she is. Then tell Ashley that for me, too. And Devon, and Carson, too.

Is the teacher noticing this? If not, I would bring it up. Kids learn crappy behaviour-and can also be shown it's not acceptable. If the children's parents won't do it, then it's up to the school.

Grrrr. Freaking kids.

Originally from Arizona..dying to get back! Oldest of three daughters... I am a Domestic Engineer aka Mommy. Things get crazy and chaotic especially with him gone all the time...and this is my refuge. I love being home with my brood. Don't mind my complaining, it's temporary...I wouldn't have it any other way! When the spawn I call my children leave my nest, I plan on retuning to the social work field, and non-profit work.
